    Blåvand Lighthouse

First time shooting a lighthouse, not an easy subject to photograph when the lamp is on and when you dont have the correct gear or even a nice clear sky - but that's no excuse so for me this is very much a learning curve..
This was the second night I visited the light house, first with the 17-40 but the smaller aperture and longer exposure blew out all the rays of light and I ended up having 1 large orange blob. This time I used a larger aperture slightly higher ISO to keep the exposure time as short as possible without creating too much noise and therefore I was able to capture the beams of light. Not 100% sure but the light rotates around about 3 times during a 20 second period and then it takes a pause - it was during this pause I started the exposure in an attempt to capture the first rotation of beams like you see in the photo. Soon as the first rotation was complete I closed the shutter, right or wrong I think it came out ok..

I hope the PP does it justice, let me know what you think... black and white maybe?

By the way, the beams are real and not added in PP..

    The Skies above

Captured while walking along the beach during our trip to Blåvand in Denmark.... Once the sun had gone down an amazing beam of light created by the sunset appeared through a break in the clouds...

    Coastal Erosion

The last 9 day's my self and the family spent our valuable time together in Denmark "Blåvand" - We have spent time in Denmark before but not in this area, certainly worthy of a second visit next year.

Spending time with the children is very valuable to me and they also know how valuable photography is to me so from time to time we make a compromise to allow myself to have a short walk with camera and lens.

anyways, cut a long story short I have a few scapes from my trip and this is my first upload - Taken on Blåvand beach over looking the North Sea.

    Glass Cube

I've wanted to take photo's of this building for a while and today was that day - although the image is black and white a coloured version will really show the beauty of this building but today I arrived a little late and the light was not on my side..

(Quote) "It is a futuristic building which is the new headquarters of the German manufacturer of glass Glaskoch. Its main brand, "Leonardo", has been named this concept as unique and striking architecture."

I shall revisit the Glass Cube in the coming day's to take both day and night shots in an attempt to make some coloured images!

Canon 5D Mark II - Canon EF 17-40 F/4 L - CPL to help remove the reflections of the glass.

    Little Miss Serious

At the moment I have no time for landscapes but I've always got time for the children. Lucy loves to create her own poses and model for the camera but on one condition, she get's to see every shot on the back of the camera or it's not happening!

3 weeks I'm done with the cellar and then back to the great outdoors!

    Snowdon

One of my favorite locations in the UK "North Wales" and only 80 Miles from my home Village. Snowdonia is the highest mountain in Wales 3,560 ft (1,085 m). On this day I was accompanied by my family, our goal for the day was to head up to the top via train but unfortunately the train service was fully booked for the next 4 days, maybe next time. Instead we decided to walk part of the Miners Track up untill lake Llyn Llydaw our final destination - beyond this point carrying a 3 year can be a bit of a challenge.

From the lower end of Llyn Llydaw I was able to capture some amazing shot's of both the lake and the peak of Snowdon. For this particular shot I waited for the sun to disappear and partly reappear from behind a cloud just enough to remove direct sun light from snowdon peak "see note" and light up the smaller mountain to the right of the frame.

My camera mounted on a tripod, I composed the shot in manual mode using Live View. To balance the light I used a Lee 0.9 3 Stop Soft Graduated filter - slowly dropping the filter in to it's holder untill I was satisfied I had the light balanced between foreground and background. Prior to using lee filters I was using Cokin, I'm gob smacked by the quality of lee filters and with zero colour cast!

Canon 5D Mark II + Canon EF 17-40 F/4 L USM + Lee Professional Kit

If you have never seen a dual Lee foundation filter holder before, this is what it looks like on a Canon EF 17-40 F/4 L.

I can confirm that you will get vignetting on a Full Frame camera at 24mm and below using the Lee Professional Kit i.e 2 x Lee holders.

The professional kit contains two basic filter holders that connect together via a tandem adaptor, allowing even more filters to be fitted in front of the lens. Each holder can be individually turned to achieve independent rotation of grads and polarisers.

I'm using a Lee 77mm Wide Angle adapter ring and not the standard..
